“Shogo Iwatsuru (’47) was born December 6, 1930, his 1st through 7th grade of school was at Pleasant Grove Elementary School in Sheldon, Ca, 8th through 9th grade in Jerome, Arkansas, 10th grade in Amache, Colorado, and 11th through 12th grade at Elk Grove High School in Elk Grove Ca. The Elk Grove Antlerette book states he took Arts &Crafts in 1946, Basketball & Antlerette in 1947. He volunteered for the Army in the winter of 1950, did his basic training at Fort Ord, Ca. and anti-aircraft artillery training in Fort Bliss, Texas. From there he was sent to Korea, where he was killed in action on September 6,1951. I hope this can help. It’s about all I can find. Other than my dad, Akira Iwatsuru and myself we were the only ones in the Iwatsuru family that lived in the Elk Grove area that served in the Military.” – Gary Iwatsuru (’67)
