About	Randy Masami Furukawa August 25, 1955 - May 9, 2023 Sacramento, California - Born on August 25, 1955 in Sacramento, CA, he graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1973 and Sacramento State University in 1982 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He was an active member of the Buddhist Church of Florin YBA and YABA clubs. With a passion for sports, he continued to play basketball, volleyball, and softball well into adulthood, playing in senior leagues. He imparted his years of basketball knowledge onto the many teams he coached. In 1982, he met his wife, Cindy, while attending the WBYL Conference. They were married on July 19, 1986. Throughout the years, they attended many sporting events, which coincided with their love for traveling. They toured many stadiums of some of the greatest (and some not so great) teams across the nation, and took many trips to Disneyland, Japan, Hawaii, and their favorite place: Reno. He worked for the Department of Developmental Services for 39 years before retiring in 2013. He lovingly dedicated the past 2 years caring for his terminally ill wife before her passing in April. Two weeks later, he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He entered Nirvana May 9, 2023. Preceded in death by his parents, George and Myrtle Furukawa, wife Cindy Furukawa. Survived by sister Ailene Nishida (John), nephews John, Erik (Katie), niece Kiyumi, great-nephew George and great-niece Grace. Friends and family are invited to the memorial service on May 18, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Buddhist Church of Florin, 7235 Pritchard Rd., Sacramento. Published by The Sacramento Bee on May 14, 2023.
