Graduation Year Class of 1942
Date of Passing Feb 26, 2021
About Oscar A.Roemer Jr., the bravest, strongest, and most hard working man we will ever know passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side at the age of 96 years.
Taking the reins of the family farm at a young age, he went on to graduate from Elk Grove High School in 1942 and in 1944 enlisted in the army. He earned a Bronze medal for his heroism and served as a guard of honor at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials.
Returning home from World War II he started a dairy with just 8 cows.
He married his sweetheart MaryAnn ( Pinola '50) . Along with his wife of 68 years, he watched his dairy grow into the last and most successful dairy farm in Sacramento. He shipped his milk to Crystal Creamery for 50 years . As the dairy grew, so did his family with son Danny( Judy), Karen Malia, Debbie Springer( Blair) and Wendy Kosterman( David) , 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren and still counting. With his son Danny joining him in the family business and later grandson Matthew , he was finally able to relax and enjoy life with travel , golf, canasta, and tending the garden and fruit trees.
No man deserved more to relax than dad. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and would often tell us stories about growing up, the war, and starting the dairy. With his wife by his side and the family gathered around the table , he would inevitably open his arms wide and say to our mom, “look what we did!” His proudest achievement will always be his family. We will forever and always be honored to call him husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, and friend. For all of the lessons taught, laughs shared, and memories of the best of times, as he would say to us, we say to him,
“Thank you, thank you, Thank you. “
And here’s a fun fact about our dad... he lived his ENTIRE life on Hedge Avenue. - Information from Daughter Karen (Roemer '72) - Malia
