About Rodell “Rod” Gene Buechler, a long-time resident of Elk Grove, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2020, in the Renown Palliative Care Unit in Reno, NV.

Rod was born April 7, 1940 in Bowdle, South Dakota, the first of five children of Milbert and Hertha (Hochstetter) Buechler. The family moved to Elk Grove in 1952, where Rod lived until he moved to Reno in 2018 with his wife Diana (Brown) Buechler.

In addition to his wife, Rod is survived by his daughter Shari Brazier, his son Bradley (Amy) Buechler, stepson Ryan (Monica) Browne. siblings Judy Arlin, Darrell (Carol) Buechler, Kathy (Eddie) Zgraggen and Scott (Carrie) Buechler; grandchildren Claire Brazier, Hope Brazier, Riley Buechler and Baylor Buechler, and the mother of his children, Lorna A. Buechler.

Rod graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1959 and remained close with his classmates through the years. He worked for 30 years at Frito Lay as a route supervisor, retiring in 1995. He was a long-time member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and, in his younger years, enjoyed fishing, camping and golfing.

His passion for baseball was evident when he served as assistant coach for his son's baseball team for many years, never missing a game - and when he wore one of his many San Francisco Giants orange and black shirts, jackets and hats.

Rod and his wife Diana were avid travelers, visiting numerous countries in North, South, and Central America, the Middle East, Indonesia, Asia, the Caribbean, as well as Australia and New Zealand.

He will be remembered for his patience, gentle nature, ready smile, love of gardening, hosting family get-togethers and his dogs.

A celebration of life will be held in Elk Grove at a future date when family and friends can safely gather together. - Information from the Elk Grove Citizen
