About Harry Haruo Kawamura was born on April 22, 1934 in the city of Sacramento, California, where he remained a life-long Sacramento resident. His family operated a farm until the outbreak of World War II, when he and his family were evacuated to the Pinedale Processing Center in May 1942, after which they were relocated to the Poston Internment Camp where they remained until their release in 1945. Harry attended Edward Kelley Elementary and Elk Grove High School, where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He then attended Sacramento City College where he also played baseball before enlisting in the army and was stationed in South Korea. Upon his return, Harry went to work for the State of California at the State Controller's Office in the I.T. Department, working there for more than 40 years before his retirement. In 1958, he married June Abe and they started their family with the birth of their daughter, Karen, in 1959, followed by the birth of their son, Scott, in 1962. Harry enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Kawamura; his parents, Roy S. and Katsuko Kawamura; his brother Frank Kawamura. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Iwata (David); son Scott Kawamura (Lora); grandchildren Eric,and Bryan Iwata, Andrew and Rebekah Kawamura; siblings, Connie Okino (Sets), Elaine Nakahara, Stanley Kawamura (Janet), Jane Abe (Robert), and numerous nephews and nieces. Family and friends are invited to the memorial service on Saturday, May 5th, at 11:00 AM, at Mayhew Community Baptist Church, 3401 Routier Road, Sacramento.
