About	ITASCA - Thomas S. Hatzold, 68, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020 - his final moments were spent among loved ones at the historic home he meticulously restored. Tom was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Ruth (Bush) and Jack Hatzold. The Hatzold family moved to Elk Grove Village in the late 1950's where Tom and younger brother Bill were inseparable companions who crafted their own version of fun from building experimental vehicles to diving head-first into outdoor recreation. At an early age, Tom developed a profound interest in building and design, and this passion flourished as he earned an architecture degree from the University of Illinois Chicago. Tom carried a prominent career serving distinct municipalities and commercial entities across the Chicago region. His bold personality, strong work ethic and genuine care for others has left a legacy for years to come. Tom served his community of Itasca for over three decades in the capacity of Plan Commission member, Building Commissioner and Historic Commission member, serving as chairperson for over 15 years. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Deborah (Frejd) and was the very proud and devoted father of Darcy (Todd) Jacobs, Drew (Jennifer), Aubrie (Matthew) Poshard, Britta & (fianc) Fil Durbas. He was the cherished grandfather, "Big-Pa", "Grandpere" & "Papa" of Logan, Blake, Morgan and Dean Hatzold, Colin Jacobs and Major and Pierce Poshard. Tom is predeceased by his parents, his in-laws James and Joan Frejd and brother-in-law David Frejd. He is survived by brother William (Kathleen), sisters-in-law Julie Schnepper, Lori (James) Pottker, Leslie (Robert) Kraus, Jill (Michael) Flaherty, brother-in-law Jon (Jill) Frejd and many loving nieces and nephews. Due to preference and respect for community health, family services will be held private.
