I posted this obituary about my great friend Lamar. He was my teacher in high school, but so much more than that. Like many others, he taught me how to drive. Later, I worked for him, and he became like a father figure to me. He would always introduce me as one of his sons.
We loved cars, steak and eggs, and remained close until the day he died.
I took Lamar on a ride-along in Stockton one night, and it was a busy one—two homicides and three stabbings. He never stopped talking about how exciting it was. The first call for service that night was a murder at the Bank of the West on Center Street. He couldn’t believe what we had to deal with down there in Stockton.
I miss my good friend and pray for him often

Me. Fairchild was my Drivers Ed teacher in the summer of 1979 at summer school for EDHS. Every in his class thought we got the best of the deal, as he often told stories of his daring youth. He was extremely proud of his 1972 Nova that he drove like a high school kid. He was also proud of his beer collection sign, that I never got to see, but was able to donate a Bitburger Pilz light up sign from Germany too.
Mr. Fairchild will be fondly remembered by hundreds if not thousands of students, after a 49 year teaching career.
