Joe was a musician with the Navy band, and was stationed in Italy when he passed away due to a brain tumor. He left behind a wife and children. (Information source was the CSU Chico Alumni news)

I had spoken with Joe only two months before his passing. I shared several songs I'd written and recorded and asked Joe if he could arrange them for a band. What I didn't know was how excited he'd been at the prospect until his wife called to tell me of his passing. It broke my heart to hear he was no longer with us. Joe was a wonderful human being and a very loyal, trustworthy friend. He may have looked up to me, but I was always extremely proud of his accomplishments. My best wishes go out to his wife and children who I'm sure miss him very, very much...as should we all.
