| About Me | Retiring(Semi) after being with the University of North Carolina at Pembroke since the Fall of 2005, I served as Associate Professor of Sociology, Director of UNC Pembroke's Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree Program, and Coordinator of UNC Pembroke's interdisciplinary minor in Non-Profit Leadership. In 2008 and again in 2019, I was honored with UNC Pembroke's Award for Outstanding Teaching. I hold a Ph.D. in Sociology from Oklahoma State University (2004), a M.A. in Urban Studies from the University of Tulsa (1978), and a B.A. from the University of Oklahoma (1974). Prior to my recent academic career, I performed paid executive staff positions in a number of public and non-profit organizations in my home state of Oklahoma and served on the boards of both local and national non-profit organizations. These paid executive staff positions included: Planner/Evaluator for the Tulsa Human Services Agency (1976-1979), Planner II for the Tulsa Metropolitan Planning Commission (1979-1980), Director of the North Tulsa Economic Development Program for the Metropolitan Tulsa Urban League (1980-1984), Deputy Executive Director for the Metropolitan Tulsa Urban League (1985-1990), Executive Director of Tulsa Habitat for Humanity (1991-1995), and Operations/Associate Director of Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry (1995-2001).
