In Memory of

Ronald Erwin Evans

1955-2015

Born Nov 30, 1955, Ronald Erwin Evans attended Eisenhower High School in Lawton, OK.

Class of 1974
Nov 30, 1955 - Apr 23, 2015
Ron was surrounded by family, including his wife, Geraldine, his sister, his children, and his lifelong friend Chuck Endicott at the time of his passing, which was both quick and peaceful. When I first moved to Lawton in 1970, Ron and I were fast friends, and our relationship endured through all the years. He was a tremendous athlete, and we honed our competitive skills doing battle on the concrete basketball courts at Edison Elementary, seemingly fighting to the death to win our games of one-on-one. We played basketball together at Eisenhower Junior High and football at Ike until he was lured away from sports by the woman who would become his first wife.

We listened to Three Dog Night and went to movies at the 82nd St. Drive-In. "Dawg" or "Dog,” back then, was one of his favorite sayings. We drifted apart after we went to separate colleges, but friends we remained. I tried to get him to come to some of our reunions, and he truly wanted to make the last one, but unfortunately, he didn't. But I did help him with a legal matter, and I also helped his niece get an unfair suspension reduced so she could go back to school. When Ron, who got me into the case, heard the outcome, he said, "My heart soars like an eagle." It was high praise indeed from my Comanche friend! Ron was a tremendous wordsmith who possessed the gift of putting pen to paper and weaving works of literary art. He directed his craft to support of Native Americans with great effect. Ron completely enjoyed life to its fullest, and absolutely loved his family the fiercest.

Lurking beneath the gentle, friendly giant that he was lived the spirit of a fierce Comanche warrior. It was my privilege to be his friend. And the bonds of his epic friendship with Chuck Endicott, to paraphrase Chuck's words, endured for a lifetime and shaped him with characteristics that remain with Chuck to this day. We all, his family, his friends, his classmates, and his colleagues will miss him. But we can be comforted with knowing that the spirit of our gentle friend, son, brother, father, writer, lover of life, and Comanche warrior will now forever soar with the eagles in our hearts and in the sky. And if you said, “Boomer!” he will forever and always say, “Sooner!”

Godspeed, Ron.
