Classmate Memories

I will remember her as the most influential teacher in my 3 yrs at Ike, beginning with Soph English. Sensitive to students' sense of identity she gave a writing assignment of describing our life so far. Reading that I was struggling with self-confidence, she responded with encouraging advice that brought that made a real difference. Possibly as part of her effort, she invited me to be on the school newspaper for the next 2 yrs with increasing responsibilities as time went on. Finally, I was in her Psychology class senior yr. where I witnessed her use of the subject matter to help us grow as individuals with an understanding of the world around us. She included a field trip to the Yakima Valley School in Selah for the developmental/intellectually disabled. Years later as a HS teacher myself, many of the efforts with my students were reflective of my having known Edna Bailey
