Maia was preceded in death by her father in 1969, mother in 1990, wonderful sister Joanne Frisque, husbands Charley Kelly in 2000 and Robert Mittelstaedt in 2016. Maia lived in the San Francisco Bay Area from 1970 till 1991. Maia moved back to the Yakima Valley with Charley in 1991 and enjoyed a 10 year retirement gardening, painting, and hiking with the Cascadians. She and Charley spent three weeks traveling in England in 1993 (one of the highlights in her life). She also volunteered for the Yakima Valley Society of Artists, the Yakima valley Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, on the board of the Yakima county clean air authority, the Yakima county Master Gardeners, and as a volunteer coordinator for the Seasons performance hall. She sang with the temple choir at First Presbyterian church (and traveled to Scotland and England to sing with other US church choirs at St. Giles, Canterbury, and Westminster Hall in 2001) and with the Yakima symphony chorus. After Charley's death Maia worked for the Yakima County Employment Security Dept eventually retiring in 2009. She so enjoyed her book club, knitting group, and all of her wonderful friends she's made through the years. Maia's passions were her art, hiking, nature, singing, listening to music, and last but not least she loved gardening and knitting. |
