About | John Eugene Witwer passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024 surrounded by family. Johnny was a kind and caring man, who would give you the shirt off his back without blinking an eye. He enjoyed greatly just talking with people, some he knew well, while others he would be meeting for the first time! If you were the recipient of this conversation, he would make you feel at ease, while the compassion and humor he exhumed left you with a smile on your face. Johnny was born in Bremerton, Washington on July 13th, 1961 to Betty Jo (Alice) Pillar and Richard Witwer, both preceded him in death. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1979. His work in the food and beverage industry started at a young age with various restaurants across the State of Washington. He moved to the Washington State Penitentiary in 2004, working also in food service. In 2015 he began his work as a Procurement Specialist at WSP where he built relationships with many inside the institution, but also outside with all the vendors he worked with as he searched for just the right product to fill the purchase order. Thirty years ago, John met the love of his life, Cheryl Richmond and they were married on July 2nd. He was catering for The Homestead the night they met. He was a father to Cheryl’s two daughters Crystal and Nicole and he took great pride in being a part of their lives and raising them as his own. His grandkids, Kyler Austin Jensen, Chloe Ann Nicks and Charlotte Grace Vulgamore were also huge in his life and he would travel near and far to watch them in sports or other school activities. Johnny was a volunteer with Little League in the Walla Walla Valley and brought fun and laughter to the concession stand, but more importantly was his time as a coach as his grandson played on various teams for Pacific Little League --- watching and helping the kids learn how to play baseball was one of his greatest joys. He was an avid sports fan who followed Gonzaga Bulldog basketball and the UofW Husky football teams. His love for music was deep and strong, and his music collection consisted of many genres that spanned from country to rap, and hard rock to folk music. Johnny is survived by his wife, Cheryl, his daughters Crystal Vulgamore (Jeremy) and Nicole Jensen (Jake Medutis, his three grandchildren, brother Les Witwer (Anna), sister Julia West as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was a true friend and had many whose lives were touched by their friendships. He will be greatly missed, and the love he showed to all he came in contact with will continue to live on forever. In his memory, contributions may be made to Walla Walla Little League, PO Box 1321, Walla Walla, or American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org). |
