About | NOTE: Would have graduated in 2025 (?) ************************** It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lucas Dale Mapes, on November 20, 2024. He was born March 19, 2007, in Yakima, to Melissa M. Abrams and Devin D. Mapes. A bright and kind young man, who left this world far too soon. Lucas attended Whitney Elementary, Franklin Middle School, and was a senior at Eisenhower High School. Lucas was a proud member of the Eisenhower High School track team, dedicated to showing up wherever and whenever needed, from beginning to end. He was an active and cherished member of West Valley Church, where he eagerly volunteered his time, working on the video and sound team. Lucas exemplified the spirit of service and love. Above all, Lucas will be remembered for his giving and compassionate soul. A beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, teammate, and friend, whose spirit lit up a room and whose generosity left a lasting impression on all he met. Lucas is survived by his brothers, Nathaniel Howard and Dylan Mapes, mother, Melissa Abrams, father, Devin D. Mapes, step parents, Cat McMillen and Ken Lanier, his Auntie Yellow, paternal grandparents, Dale and Lorreta Mapes, and so many more aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, blood and chosen family alike, who will miss him deeply. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandma, Darlene Seefelt, step grandmother, Bonnie Anthony Maxwell, and his cousin, Ryan Abrams. A Celebration of Life for Lucas will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 1:00pm, at West Valley Church (7109 W Nob Hill Blvd, Yakima, WA). A Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to SAVE.org, Eisenhower High School Athletics, or West Valley Church Youth Group in his memory, continuing his legacy of service and love. Thank you to all of the caring first responders. Rest easy, Lucas. You ran your race with courage, grace, and love. Your light will shine forever in our hearts. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.brooksidefuneral.com. |
