Graduation Year Class of 1966
Date of Passing Nov 02, 2022
About Cindy Lee (Sugden) Evans passed away peacefully on November 2, 2022, at the Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima, Washington. She was born on October 23, 1948, to Vernon and Rosemary (Finnegan) Sugden, in Faribault, Minnesota. The family moved to Yakima, Washington in 1961, where she attended Eisenhower High School, graduating in 1966.
After high school, Cindy attended Yakima Valley Community College, Central Washington University, and eventually married her high school sweetheart, Patrick Evans, in 1973. Pat and Cindy spent 49 wonderful years together, camping, fishing, attending local sporting events, creating memories at their summer home at Twin Lakes near Inchelium, Washington, and strolling the beach with Beau, their schnauzer, at Rockaway Beach, Oregon.
Cindy spent 30 plus years as a dental assistant, as well as countless hours volunteering at the North Star Lodge. She was also active in the YMCA, the Discovery shop, volunteering as a youth mentor, and receiving the Outstanding Mentor of the Year award in 2015. Cindy always brought a sense of warmth, inclusivity, and joy around those she interacted with. Cindy had deep family compassion, zest for life and a great sense of humor. Whether it was in the dental chair, or on a plane to visit her beloved grandchildren, Cindy could make conversation with anyone. She was also an avid Seattle Mariners and San Francisco 49ers fan.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Rosemary (Finnegan) Sugden. Cindy is survived by her husband, Patrick Evans, son, Josh, and daughter in-law, Adrienne, of Petaluma, California. She was the proud grandmother of Holden (8), Theo (7), and Hazel (4). She is also survived by her sister, Sherry Smith, brother, Keith Sugden (Diann), and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Special thanks to the staff at Yakima Memorial Hospital, Dr. Jeffrey Kaplan, and North Star Lodge for the continuous support and encouragement during Cindy's year-long battle with leukemia. Additionally, Cindy drew a great deal of strength from her long-lasting friendships of the Eisenhower Class of 1966.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022, at 11:00am, at Shaw & Sons Funeral Home (201 N. 2nd St., Yakima, WA). A Reception will follow. The family asks that all flowers and notes be sent to Shaw & Sons Funeral Home.
