About James "Jim" Rocco Durado, 80, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the HealthCenter Northwest in Kalispell.

He was born in Columbia Falls, Feb. 9, 1933, to Italian immigrant parents, Rocco and Frances Durado.

Jim spent his early life in Missoula. His father was a baker at Eddy's Bakery. Upon completion of the fourth grade, he moved with his family to Kalispell. Jim graduated from Flathead County High School in 1951, and attended the University of Montana where he received a bachelor's degree in music. He was also commissioned as a second lieutenant in the National Guard.

Jim began his teaching career in Polar, Mont. After one year he moved to Yakima, Wash., where he was a vocal teacher. During his years at Eisenhower High School he directed many successful Broadway musicals.

In 1975, Jim moved back to Kalispell and entered the retail business. He opened Giacomos Shoes in 1980. He closed the store in 1987, but continued to be known in town as "Giacomo." In 1990, he and Mavis moved to Spokane and re-entered the teaching profession. In 1997, he retired and did substitute teaching until 2001, when he returned to Kalispell.

We will miss his smile, unconditional love and caring spirit. If you wish to do something nice in Jim's memory, hug a loved one, pass on a good deed or remember that every day is a gift, life is short and treasure each minute — Ciao.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, John and Frank.

He is survived by his wife, Mavis Durado, of Kalispell; his three children, daughter, Lori Lowe, and husband, Bill, grandsons, Billy Lowe, Tyler Lowe and great-grandson, TreShawn Lowe; daughter, Tonya Meyer, and husband, Randy, grandsons, Brauhn Roberts and Seth Johnson; and son, Jerry Johnson; and two brothers, Larry Durado and Bob Durado.

At Jim's request, no services will be held.
