Graduation Year Class of 1983
Date of Passing May 06, 2019
About Darren Robert Long, 54, of Yakima passed unexpectedly on May 6, 2019 following a brief illness. Darren was born in Yakima on September 2, 1964 to Dave (Franklin) and Pat (Robbins) Long. He was raised in Yakima where he attended school and graduated from Eisenhower High in 1983, and later received an associate degree from YVC. Darren started working early in life, spending summers as a farm hand on his uncle’s farm and then for his parents at their bar (Ole’s Place Tavern). Later, he and his brother, Randy, started R&D Amusement, an arcade and entertainment machines business. He later partnered with his father in operating Ole’s and Michael’s Sports Bar. At the time of his death, he was working as a cashier for Yakima County Solid Waste.

Darren enjoyed following his boys’ life activities, especially as a dedicated West Valley High School Marching Band (Go Rams!) and Columbians Drum & Bugle Corps parent volunteer. He enjoyed a good western or sci-fi movie, taking care of his horses and acreage, hanging out with his boys and, when he could get away, a Wild Horse Casino poker tournament.

Darren is survived by his wife Mayling, and their two sons, Jarrett (15) and Jackson (13). He is also survived by his older siblings, Randy Long (Linda) and Danette Long, his wife’s siblings, Jeanne Okubo (Robin), Julie Chin, Maylee Witham (Jeff), Anita Agee (Bill), and Ed Chin, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and aunts and uncles, and his stepmother Linda. Darren was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Pat and his in-laws Wayne and Ann Chin.

A Formal Memorial Service will be held on May 24 at 11 am. Private inurnment will occur at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please donate to West Valley High School Music Program. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.keithandkeith.com.
