About Denny Lane Sund, 45, of Seattle died Saturday afternoon, February 6, 2016 in Seattle. Denny was born April 16, 1970 in Spokane, the son of Thomas Barton and JoAnn Marie (Rodgers) Sund.

The family lived the first year of his life in Aberdeen and then moved to Spokane in 1971. He attended kindergarten and part of his 1st grade at Blake Elementary School in the Spokane Valley. In 1976 the family moved to Yakima where he completed his education at McClure Elementary, Franklin Jr. High School and graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1989. He enjoyed playing soccer and BMX racing when he was younger. He was baptized in 1971 into the Lutheran Church at Messiah Lutheran Church in Spokane and upon moving to Yakima attended Central Lutheran Church and Sunday school. While in high school Denny worked as a waiter at O’Brien’s Restaurant; later working for Best Built Windows in Union Gap and Trail Wagons. He made the decision to join the U.S. Marine Corps when he was 20 years old and served with Bravo Co. 4th Tank Battalion Company B 4th marine Division in the Desert Storm war in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a LCpl at the time of his discharge.

Following his discharge he moved to Richland where he worked as a carpenter. Denny moved to Seattle in 1998 and continued as a carpenter until he was no longer able to work.

Denny had a fantastic sense of humor, was a people person and made friends wherever he went. He was a dedicated friend to his school classmates and members of the Bravo Company. Denny enjoyed being with his friends, was flirtatious, loved children and enjoyed cats and dogs.

He had the opportunity to go to Ixtapa, Mexico and Hawaii and enjoyed going to Las Vegas. He was extremely proud of his Norwegian heritage and was able to go to Norway with his father and other relatives for 3 weeks in 2002.

Denny died at Northwest Hospital in Seattle from liver failure due to alcoholism.

Survivors include his father, Tom Sund of Yakima; a sister, Lissa and her husband, Chris Payne of Seattle; 2 nieces, Ella Marie and Lila Mae Payne and a nephew, Hutson John Payne; his grandmother, Ella May Bolstad of Lacey; aunts and uncles, Mary Beth (Jim) Wright of Yakima, Jim (Judy) Sund of Yakima, Bill (Pam) Sund of Quincy, Rich Peck of Yakima and Denice Irish (Gary Sund) of Sequim. Also surviving are several cousins, including Kylie Sund, Kevin Sund, Todd Sund, Matt Sund, Jenelle Peck, Tyler Peck, Todd Palmer and Jeff Palmer, and his best friend and roommate, Shannon North.

He was preceded in death by his mother, JoAnn Sund on February 7, 1980; grandparents, Wm. J. “Bill” and Mavis Sund and Eugene H. Bolstad. Also preceded by an aunt, Judy Rodgers, an uncle, Gary Sund, and a nephew, Spencer Thomas Payne.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 27th at 1:00 PM in the Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima, 2600 Business Lane, in Terrace Heights, with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps. Private inurnment will be in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

A fellowship for family and friends will follow the services at Central Lutheran Church, 1604 W. Yakima Ave., Yakima.

The family suggests that, if desired, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
