About Event
Player’s Circle of Friends and the Alumni Association Invite You To… HAIRSPRAY Directed by Lawrence Nadel (Class of 2002) Friday May 11, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. ***$12.00 per person includes the performance and a reception. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. in room G-198 and will continue during intermission. (Not to be combined with any other offer)*** Set in the early 1960s, Hairspray tells the story of a plus-sized girl Tracy who dreams of being a featured dancer on “The Corny Collins Show,” the Baltimore equivalent of “American Bandstand.” Corny Collins has problems of his own, as he’d like to integrate the show’s dancers against the wishes of the producer instead of relegating African Americans to a once-monthly appearance on Negro Day. Famous songs include: You Can’t Stop the Beat, Mama I’m a Big Girl Now, Good Morning Baltimore, and Welcome to the Sixties. Hairspray is a toe-tapping romp which presents a life-affirming message that it’s okay to be different and that progress occurs when we stand together.
