About Me Spring of 1979 freshman year. My last, "4th" shop elective was a machine tool and die class with Mr. Collin Jr. who taught the class how to run and operate as many machines we could 2-3 week prior to June 23, (Wait for it and continue the read, as I mix my story telling”. Students in my class were unaware Edison was moving to Colfax St. May have been Mr. Collins Jr. (Not Regents) or Mr. Collins Sr. (Regents)- (Yes Father & Son) most likely both planned a timeline for our class to prepare for the move on June 1st. Unknown if the Collins knew what they did next was a life changing experience above and beyond the skilled trade as machinist for those of us who chose machine shop after the move. How? Revealing with close supervision their expertise teaching our class hands on experience the dismantling of all the machines. Including: How to treat them with conditioning oils, rapping and labeling each part by name etc. How to package and create each machine and its parts for transfer to Colfax St. Next!!! On our arrival to the new Edison location on Colfax as sophomores. All the machines were in the classroom we were assigned and Mr. Collin (As I Remember) simply told us to triple up and get started moving the machines to their location according to this floor plane, putting it up on a board. Then said, you all should know how to assemble them because you took them apart and don't forget they need to be anchored to the floor. For the most part Mr. Collin Jr. left all of us alone for a couple of weeks only, quietly checking safety protocols while the shop came together like magic. This is one of my favorite memories because all sophomore students that chose machine shop as their permanent elective gained the experience of an, “Maintenance Machinist”. Way higher salary! Definition: Responsible for implementing and maintaining industrial machinery. Their primary duties include investigating and diagnosing equipment failures and performing corrective actions.in m Mr. Collins Jr. and Sr. got tear down and buildup of machine, not just how to use them. Thanks for the read, Paul Hoffmann Oh, let's blow this up! LOL! Blue eyed intellectual that 95% of the time will speak the truth. 162 IQ = just smart enough when someone says, "You think you know everything" to respond with, "Well stop asking me stupid questions". Mastered five skilled trades that include, 1. Certified Field Service Engineer for all/any brand or type of powered equipment from a chain saw to a combine. 2. ASE Master Mechanic. 3. Associate degree, Motorcycle Mechanics including part identification. This gave me nightmares. I rather had dreamed of the 150,000 miles I have riding around the USA on just about every brand there is. 4. Not Master, “Computer God”! Owned a PC repair company starting when Win 95 came out. Knowledge of DOS & Cobalt prior to the GUI, Java, Html, etc. Got intrested in IMB when they were still using vacuum tubes. Never been beat making a PC do what I want it to. EVER! 5. Glazing Industrial Engineer, Design Master. What makes this title so special? A Glazer installs glass only. A business license can be obtained by anyone, open up and call it a glass shop subcategorized under services without a glazing license in any state. Without this license, you’re not supposed to take on jobs over $500. Labor is tax free so do not report delivery cost. This is so unions don’t get lowballed by idiots etc. Example: Ca. is (C-17) and Az. (C-65) can be obtained by anyone that passes the test and you can take it with sop to shop. Its important for owners to get their own for insurance purpose & get that Li. sticker on your trucks. My licenses are nationwide I alone use to consult, design, engineer residential or commercial applications providing, engineering reports, create installation process detail with step by step illustrations, procuring city construction zone permits, supplying contractors with update inspection building code in there county/subdivision of same, sale of any glazing hardware or machinery, the list goes on. Toot-Toot my horn. My website is listed so fell free to visit. I made and upkeep it on my own servers. By the ...(read more)
