Phyllis Miranda
Class of 1964
since IGraduated in 1964 I graduated from Dela College with an AA in Early Chidhood Education. Upon graduating from Delta I was hired for SUSD Child Care program working with school age children. I was offered a part time position and almost turned it down until my father advised me to get my foot in the door and prove myself. So, I listened to my dad and by the end of the summer I was offered a full time position with full benefits.Five years later I became a Site Supervisor. I developed school age curriculum which led to bigger and better things later on. I got married and had 2 precious girls.(I now have 5 very special grandchildren.) I worked for SUSD for 26 years.SUSD gave up the child care programs and I ended up working for another program and wrote school age curriculum for Stockton and Sacramento programs. Later on I helped write a proposal to take back the child care programs once run by SUSD. We started out with 2 centers and 20 years later and still going strong we have40 programs in Stockton, Manteca, and Tracy. I finally got a chance to go back to school and received my BA in Early Childhood from Humphreys College. After I graduated I was offered an adjunct instructor position. I have taught 2 classes each quarter for the past 7 years. I also went back to school and received my Masters Degree in Adult Education and Distant Learning. I received such great guidance from wonderful teachers at Edison. (ms. Larson, Mr.muller who always encouraged me to do my best . ) This year I will be celebrating my 47th year of working with children and families of San Joaquin County and I am still having fun.
