July Class LUNCHEON Meeting

Three things are different about our upcoming meeting:
1) It's a lunch meeting
2) Its at Hokkaido Asian Buffet.
3) it's on the 2nd Saturday in July.
Okay so here's the situation. We could not reserve the room where we usually have breakfast because it's the Golden Corral's busy season. The only restaurant that could accommodate our group of a dozen or more at a very inexpensive rate and was satisfactory to those who shared their thoughts is Hokkaido. So, the luncheon will be Saturday the 13th because the first Saturday in July is part of a holiday weekend and many people may be traveling our entertaining family & friends.
We have very important business to discuss and need as many people as possible to attend and if we have 25 attendees, the room will be free.
Agenda items include 1) the Scholarship Foundation's Articles of Incorporation; 2) the establishment of a Nomination Committee to identify members for the Board of Directors for the Scholarship Foundation; and 3) the establishment of a Reunion Committee to plan for our 50th anniversary in 2021.
I hope you will come and help us make decisions on behalf of our great class.

Tour of East Side

Thanks to Bessie Frierson Lewis and the Class of 1969, I had the opportunity to be a part of a tour of East Side. There are some parts of the school that were familiar to me but overall, it's bigger and better. I didn't take pictures but the library is fantastic with banners of the colleges and
universaries where graduates have matriculated. Each wing of the school has a beautiful full length plaques of dignitaries and legends from East. Louis. there is a wall for arts, politics, business, the arts performance and otherwise. There is a press conference room to accommodate the media when our kids are signing for college, etc. There is an awesome career technical education program that not only has the trades from the 70's but also computer technology, cosmetology, culinary arts, nursing, entrepreneurship, etc. It blew my mind! The Hall of Fame was great too! So many trophies and plaques and of course, The Bell. The entry to the basketball gym is a sight to see. All the "greats" from East Side who went on to professional and Olympic feats where identified. I was overwhelmed and filled with joy. I've already collected the name of those who conducted the tour on behalf of the school. I hope we'll get a chance to visit when we celebrate our 50th anniversary in two years.

Volunteers Needed

Happy Friday, classmates!

This is to update you on progress in organizing our Foundation. My last e-mail to you requested volunteers to serve on the ByLaws Committee. We have five (5) at this time, including Bessie, Delphine, John Bolden., John Lewis, and me. We've got room for 2 or four more. Please let me know early next week.

I've reviewed the IL Secretary of State's website for how to organize a not for profit organization and have also found a few samples of Bylaws. The first order of business for the Committee is to review the attached for discussion at our first meeting. The second order is to schedule a meeting. John L. has access to a conference call number. That means we can conduct the Committee Meetings on the phone. Thanks, John L.

So, again, we've got room for 2 or four more. Please let me know early next week and we can schedule a meeting for May 6th or 7th, maybe...

By-laws Committee for Scholarship Foundation

Greetings class members!
This is just a brief note to request your assistance. As you may know, our class is initiating a scholarship foundation for East Side. John Bolden is getting the organization incorporated and I am spearheading development of By-laws. Delphine Walton Pierce and Bessie Frierson Lewis have both graciously volunteered to serve on the By-laws Committee. We need 2 or 4 more members. We'll probable "meet" in the next two weeks, possibly by phone. so if you have an interest but are not in the E St L area, please feel free to do so. I look forward to your response.

April Breakfast 1971 Classes

Hey, class mates.

It's time for our quarterly get together. I hope to see you at the Golden Corral at 3360 Greenmount Crossing Rd, Shiloh, IL 62269

Saturday, April 6, 2019
Senior special: 7:30 - 9 AM $6.79. So try to arrive around 8:45 or pay the regular price of $8.29 between 9 - 11 AM. Also, it's not required that you eat.

We usually start whatever general discussions around 9:30 AM or so but until then and afterwards, it's just socializing and catching up.

As you know, our class has been active in sending condolences and flowers to the family of our beloved classmates who have transitioned to eternity. May we forever keep them in our memory. Seeing classmates at the repast and afterwards has also been a bitter sweet reunion.

Also, we gave out three (3) $1,000 scholarships last year and have started discussing how to continue doing something likewise via a foundation or an alumni association. We have some research to report and would love your input in our deliberations.

In two years, we will celebrate our 50th anniversary of graduation from high school! I can't believe it been that long but according to my calculator, 2021 - 1971 = 50. So, we may need to start talking about the reunion.

One last thing, check out Alumniclass.com. It's a website that classes can use as a platform to stay in touch, plan reunions, conduct fundraising, etc. A few classmates have already joined and I recently joined. I found out that if you start the process but don't pay the fee immediately, you'll get about three days of notices with a more reduced price with each e-mail. Ha!

Take care, friends. I hope to see you.

PS Please share with any classmates not listed or just to remind them. :-)
