Favorite School Memory	I have so many memorable events from high school that it is hard to just pick one. However, one thing that sticks out in my mind was the year we planned our senior prom. We were not able to have a prom because, according to the school board, we would have been breaking the rules. (Whites and Blacks dancing together) We chose to forgo our prom and fight. As student body president, I remember organizing a group of us who met with Mr. Oatis and finally the school board. We made a difference. Things changed, but it was too late for us. Since then many classes have had the freedom to choose and to actually participate in their senior proms. I do not know how many of them are aware of this, but they have that freedom because of the senior class of 1979. I also enjoyed traveling with Mr. Owens. About Me	After graduating from East Marion High School, I began attending Alcorn State University in June of 1979. I graduated from Alcorn State in May of 1983, and joined the Dallas Police Department in July, 1983. I started out as a patrol officer. I moved on to become a Crime Prevention Specialist, and Instructor at the Dallas Police Academy, an Internal Affairs Detective and in 2009, I was awarded, "the Texas Women in Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award for 2009-2010. I earned my Masters in Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas. I am currently a Spokesperson/Detective in the Media Relations and Departmental Communications Unit, where I am responsible for briefing the local and national news media on events concerning the Dallas Police Department. I am one of the Department's photographers and editor of a weekly news letter. I will celebrate my 27th anniversary on July 27, 2010. . I live in Allen, Texas and I have a really great son, Christopher, who recently graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas; and yes, thank God, he has a job. For the first time in my life, I was married in 2004. However, the marriage did not survive and I was divorced in 2006. I am single again and I am at peace with that. Since 1979, there have been changes in my family. My mother passed away in '2000; my dad in '2003 and my brother Jerry also, in '2003. My cousin Otha Crowther, who was a part of our 1979 class, passed away in 1990. I remember my friends and family from East Marion High School and Alcorn State University with great joy.
