East Lyme - David Lawrence Yuhas, 69, died unexpectedly Aug. 11, 2021. David was born in East Lyme Jan. 31,1952.
As a child, David was in love with airplanes which led him to receive his pilot's license at a young age. He graduated from East Lyme High School; and subsequently, enlisted in the U.S. Army where he participated in the Vietnam War, and in the Gulf War. He eventually transferred to the U.S. Air Force, becoming a flight engineer. During that time, he received the Aerial Achievement Medal for participating in the successful mission accomplishment in support of Operation Restore Hope. He retired as a technical sergeant in 2008. His final career was spent at Sikorsky Aircraft from which he retired in 2018.
David is survived by his father John Yuhas; brother Matthew; sisters, Cathy Yuhas and Patricia Hazzard (Donald Hazzard). He is also survived by nieces, Caitlin Powers and Rachel Brown; nephew Robert Brown (Sarah Brown); grandniece Katherine Baker; and grandnephews, Lucas and Weston Brown.
