| Favorite School Memory | I loved it all: the flying saucers at lunch, the ball games, the dances after the ball games, making grass whistles on the front lawn, getting kicked out of Mrs. Avenall's Spanish class for laughing with Lynne Habecker and Toni Leonetti over having to read a paragraph that included a reference to Lake Titicaca. I loved Mr. Fulcher's Humanities class, especially when he talked about his own life, but also when he let Madelyn recite her poem about hoof and mouth disease. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have sat in front of Norman King in that class, because while Mr. Fulcher was teaching his heart out in front of the class, Norman was behind me delivering an impassioned lecture about the evils of Barry Goldwater and his ilk. I've been a liberal progressive for five decades as a result. I loved meandering home from school with Jill Benton in the fall, when maple leaves were knee-high on the sidewalks. I loved dancing with Jimmy Skidmore, trying on (but not buying) clothes with Susie Crandall, and cheerleading practice with Suzi Freeland and Hugh Maynard (or Human Ard, the pronunciation I always preferred).
