| About Me | Bernard Belle was born and raised in Englewood, NJ. Bernard was drawn to music at a very young age. His life would forever be changed on December 25, 1975, the day he received his first instrument, a fender music master bass guitar. From there, he was off and running and never looked back. In junior high school, Bernard took a band class that encouraged him to play trombone, but Bernard, however, was attracted to the section of the band that was called the rhythm section. Those instruments included bass guitar, lead guitar, keyboards, and drums. Not being able to decide which one he wanted to play, he decided to learn to play them all. Bernard was an award winning drummer and guitar player in high school. As a result of his talent, he was offered a partial scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston. Bernard, however, declined the offer and prepared to move on to the next phase of his musical career. When Bernard heard that the R&B group, The Manhattans, was looking for a guitar player, he was recommended by his sister, Regina Belle, who was already singing background vocals. He played with the Manhattans intermittently for about two years. When his sister received a recording contract with Columbia Records, Bernard was excited to join her on tour playing guitar and keyboards. This is where he received his first real taste of musical discipline. In 1986, Bernard began working with the legendary producer Teddy Riley. Together, they became the pioneers of the New Jack Swing era of music, paving the way for new and existing artists. He began writing and producing for artists such as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown, Pattie LaBelle, Aaron Hall, Keith Sweat, Al B. Sure, Jackie McGee, Today, and Glen Jones just to name a few. As a result of great success early in his career, he received 4 Grammy Awards, 1 American Music Award, 2 Soul Train Music Awards, over a dozen ASCAP Awards and nominations for Stella and Dove Awards. After dedicating his life to Christ in 1994, Bernard remains one of the most sought after musicians in the gospel music industry while continuing to be an icon in the R&B sector. Playing for such artists as Donnie McClurkin, Shirley Caesar, Richard Smallwood, Marvin Sapp, Fred Hammond, Yolanda Adams, Tye Tribbitt, Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, Donald Lawrence, Ricky Dillard, Smokey Norful, Hezekiah Walker, BeBe & CeCe Winans. He is a recurring musician on the BET gospel shows, Sunday Best and The Celebration of Gospel. Bernard Belle’s name appears on over 70 million rec...(read more) |
