Barbara Ann Harper, 57, of Cape St. Claire, passed of cardiac arrest at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore due to complications from a bilateral lung transplant in 1998. The daughter of Charles E. Smith of Florida and the late Mary Mathews Smith, Mrs. Harper was born in Chester, Pa., and graduated from DuVal High School in Lanham. She worked as a data entry operator for GEICO from 1966 to 1975 and for the state Comptroller's Office from 1985 to 1996. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing softball and bowling. In addition to her father, surviving is her husband, Joseph W. Harper, whom she married Feb. 5, 1972; one son, Michael W. Harper of Elk Grove, Calif.; one daughter, Kelly A. Weaver of Pasadena; two brothers, Donald M. Smith of Florida and Charles E. Smith of Vienna, Va.; and three granddaughters. Visitation will be at Taylor Funeral Home, followed by funeral services. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville
