Albert Richard Gamiz, 56, beloved son of Albert J and Lois Heinzelman Gamiz, passed away at Rio Grande Hospital, He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Sr., his grandparents, and uncles. He is survived by his mother; his brothers Robert (Janice) Gamiz of Annapolis, MD, and Ray (Debbie) of Harwood, MD. He was born in 1948 in Monterrey but came to the United States at the age of six months when his parents returned to Laredo. He also lived in Texarkana, but spent most of his life in the Washington, DC, area before coming to reside in McAllen. Upon graduating, Rick enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served in Vietnam during the war. He received the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After 3 years of service he returned to Lanham, MD, where he worked as a carpenter and as a jewelry repairman in his parents' business. In 1989, because of his ill health, he came to live with his parents who in 1987 had moved to McAllen. There will be a private service at his mother's home for friends and family at a later date.
