Eugene Holland "Chip" Moore, III, age 57, died peacefully Sunday morning, July 12, 2009 at Durham Regional Hospital. A Durham native, Chip was born to the late Beatrice Womble Moore and Eugene Holland Moore, Jr. on August 26, 1951.
Chip graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and taught in the Durham Public Schools for 30 years. He played a significant role in the lives of many middle school students while teaching English at Githens and Carrington Middle Schools. For 20 years, he served as an instructor/academic director for the Duke University Young Writers' Camp.
