Served in South Vietnam flying as an aircrewman earning six Air Medals with 124 missions.
Instructed for 15 years in a local community college. Put 20 years at a local GE Nuclear Plant. Finale retirement in 2011. Now doing Honor Guard Duty with the local American Legion, Post 10.

PATRICK JOSEPH MARTIN

Senior Chief Martin is a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Dunmore High School in June 1980 and enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1980.

Upon completion of recruit training and service schools, Senior Chief Martin was assigned to USS AUSTIN (LPD 4) in May 1982. During this tour he completed an eight-month Mediterranean deployment in support of operations in Beirut, Lebanon, including recovery operations after the bombing of the Marine barracks. Following completion of his sea tour, Senior Chief Martin was assigned ashore to Naval Air Station, Key West, Florida.

After 21 months ashore, Senior Chief Martin terminated shore duty and reported to USS RICHARD E. BYRD (DDG 23). He completed his second Mediterranean deployment and participated in Counter Drug Operations off the coast of South America. Senior Chief Martin qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist in November 1988. Following this tour, he accepted orders for an additional sea-duty assignment on board USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69). On IKE Senior Chief Martin filled Leading Petty Officer billets in Engineering Department and the ship’s Executive Administrative office and completed his third Mediterranean deployment. He followed this assignment with a one-year tour at Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron ONE TWO ZERO prior to receiving orders to Flag Writer School. While assigned to the squadron, Senior Chief Martin qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist.

Upon completion of Flag Writer School, Senior Chief Martin returned to sea duty as the flag writer to Commander, Amphibious Group TWO. During this tour he completed several at-sea periods on board the 30 plus amphibious units assigned to the Group in support of unit training and joint exercises, and in addition to duty at-sea, he performed field duty in support of Maritime Pre-positioning Forces exercises. Completing his tour at Amphibious Group TWO in July 1995, Senior Chief Martin was assigned as the flag writer to the Director for Operations, Commander in Chief, United States Atlantic Command (CINCUSACOM J3). With the Director's reassignment in July 1996, Senior Chief Martin received orders as the flag writer to the Director for Operations, Plans & Policy, United States Atlantic Fleet (CINCLANTFLT N3/N5). He was reassigned with the Director in November 1997 and reported as flag writer to Commander Carrier Group SIX in December 1997. He completed an around-the-world deployment on board USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) in August 1998. With the Commander’s reassignment in October 1998, Senior Chief Martin was assigned as flag writer to Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet in December 1998. On reporting to his final assignment at Afloat Training Group Norfolk, he was immediately reassigned as the Administrative Officer and Command Master Chief at Commander, Afloat Training Group, Atlantic in July 1999.

His military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and numerous other unit and service awards.

Senior Chief Martin is married to the former Leslie Marie Berry of Norfolk, Virginia. Senior Chief and Mrs. Martin have two children, Christopher Sean and Kathleen Nicole, and currently reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Joined the Navy Reserves with Eugene Barkasy on the same day in November, 1962. Graduated Hospital Corpsman School Great Lakes, Ill. in 1964 prior to duty aboard the USS Mountrail APA 213 out of Norfolk. Graduated from Hospital Corpsman Independent Duty School Portsmouth Va. in 1969. Left the reserves after 10 years with the rank of HM1. Rejoined the Navy Reserves 10 years later. Graduated FMF training and was attached to Fleet Hospital 15 located in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia during Dessert Storm. Returned home and was attached to the marine unit located in Harrisburg, Pa. Retired as HMC with 20 years service in January, 1995.
