Known for his performance as both a catcher for the IUP baseball team and a linebacker for the IUP football team, McMullan bagged the prestigious All-American honor in both sports.

Post-graduation in 1990, McMullan turned professional and played for significant teams like the New York Yankees (from 1990 to 1992) and the Salt Lake City Trappers (in 1990 and 1992). He also earned the Pioneer League All-Star title with the Trappers in 1990.
