About Me wellll AJ was about four months old when i graduated, and then after adam got out of boot camp we moved to kansas for 2 years, but adam did 2 rotations in kuwait, and then served in Iraq (combat infantry) he was a tank dismount, and bush gave the order to go and he was sitting on the kuwaiti border, and march 1 (our sons 4th birthday) he rolled out with the first infantry division, and there was no mandatory post tramatic stress treatment at that point and he came back pretty messed up, and we hadn't seem eachother in almost 2 years. so i moved to san diego and finished cosmetology school and got my own place a year later. i was hired at an elite aveda salon in del mar, and trained at the advanced academy in london. then adam and i had been seperated about a year when i met my fiancee david, and we went through a pretty tough divorce and because of his post tramatic stress i got custody, and he spent about 2 years hating me and just trying to find his new normal. so he went for counceling for post tramatic stress, and took some parenting classes and now he's just about the best dad a kid could ask for! we lost alot of very close friends over there, adams best friend saved his live by pulling him out of a burning tank and then they all came home and no one got help because of the stigma associated with it. adam was one of the lucky ones, he did drink heavily and burned our apartment complex down and we lost everything. and his best friend got into some heavier drugs and a deal went sour and he was shot 9 times and killed execution style on his knees by one of his own soldiers. a few other guys from our unit are doing time at Ft. Leavenworth because one day they lay to sleep in a hole they dug them selves, and the next day they were home with their families. No drinking allowed in Iraq, so u can imagine what the first thing they did was.....hit the college town in manhattan kanas and hit the bars. a few college kids were talking about the war and even blaming the troops for going, and 2 of the soldiers from adams unit beat them nearly to death outside. we are definately one of the few success stories, adam finally picked up the pieces of his life, but by was 3 years to late to save our marriage. and he did a total 180 degree turn. 2 years after the divorce he told me fighting so hard for AJ for saved his life, it gave him something to work for, all he wanted was to be a dad but after what he went through he didnt know how.... he just knew he wanted to be with his son, but he couldnt see him till he got better; and he did! he's been AJs football and baseball coach for the past four years, never misses a practice or a game, assembly, open house or even a doctors appointment. Now he finally has AJ 3 days out of the week, and is currently taking the lsat prep class this summer at USC, and will be graduating from Long Beach State next year with a degree in History, then he's off to law school and when hes done with that, i get to go full time while he goes back to work! But we wound up becoming the best of friends and fortunately AJ adores my fiancee so we are just one big happy family! i cant have anymore children because ive been battling cervical cancer for the past 9 years. Butttt david never wanted a biological child, he felt there were too many kids lost in the system, and the older ones have a much harder time getting adopted, so we are considering becoming foster parents, and on a much happier note, David and owns a barber shop and i rent a station at D1 Salon in Long Beach. we have been together 5 years now, and saved every extra cent we could and we just bought our first home In Rossmoor, we open escrow tomarrow actually! i still give catching lessons, but its not cool when mom knows more than the dads that are coaching so i pretty much stay outta the dugout!! I was very fortunate to begin my career at such a great salon because it gave me the opportunity to do some platform work, photoshoots, and i even took a corporate job with aveda for a short time as their color specialist, but my territory was from los angeles to santa barbra, and i lost all the flexibility to be with AJ whenever i wanted. So for the past 3 years, adam and i have coordinated our schedules so AJ doesn't have to be in day care after school, and its a good thing because between baseball, chess club, future engineers of tomarrow club, and guitar lessons he keeps us constantly on the go! i dont know if anyone one lives in long beach but visit www.tracigarrett.com and we can catch up over a haircut or something! ...(read more)
