| About Me | Worked as an x-ray technician at the 28th general hospital from Oct.1958 thru May of 1960. The Army hospital was ending the process of relocating from La Rochelle to Croix Chapeau. The hospital at Chapeau was brand new. My time spent in France, at age 19 thru and 20, was the best of times and the best of life... Ran the bulls at Pamplona, drank wine from a bota with Hemingway .Skied in Switzerland, Oktoberfest in Munich. 24 hour race at La Mans. The beaches of el de re, Moterscortering around Monaco. Long weekend in Paris, not much not to like. All on the Army’s dime. The Doctors and staff at the 28th were first class in dedication to the care and treatment of those in need and in the way they treated us enlisted men and women. Remember: Roger Kruger, from my home town of Downers Grove IL, who came to be my best friend, Tom Finley, from Chicago, as good as they come, Capt Richardson, radiologist, gentle giant Capt Konwinski ((sp?) Capt. Blowers both surgeons, who I thought were gods. There was Mike Cobb from St. Louis and Bill Mc Donald from Calf, Dick Wattenburger from Calf, and Hogan from Conn... Bill Hilliaco (sp?) from Elmira NY. And more and more that sometimes come into mind... Thanks for the memories. The best to all. I retired from Baxter healthcare in 2003 after 34 years with the title of senior process engineer. I doubt that any of my HS teachers saw that in my future. I only had a few semesters of college, on the GI bill. I never graduated from college and I feel that gave me an advantage. I’ve worked with some college graduates that had high education, but no common sense, short on integrity and lacking “old school’ work ethics. My gig was producing (molding) plastic and silicone medical parts and supplier quality validations. GMP. (Good manufacturing process). Survived over two million frequent flyer millage with only a few panic attacks., USA, east coast to west coast, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Ireland, France, England and in China. Air flights always a hassle and long. Travel in China from one province to another was an adventure and education. The best part of any trip was always going home. Married and blessed, 54 years with Ann and still going strong. Have three sons and nine grandkids. 2 years old thru 17 years old. Six boys, three girls. All live close by. Grandchildren are a joy, they teach us a lot. If I had known grandchildren were this much fun, I would have had them first. I know I am sometimes forgetful, but then some of life is just as well forgotte...(read more) |
