About | A truly generous and loving man. "Generosity is the most natural outward expression of an inner attitude of compassion and loving-kindness" An extremely generous and loving man Rusty was very well known in the community and touched the lives of so many people. Born on New Year's Eve in 1961, Rusty lived a fun an festive life. Raised in Goleta, Ca, he graduated Dos Pueblos in 1980. Rusty won many awards in Jr. Bowling tournaments in the 70's and throughout his adulthood. He was unusually talented and a natural at this sport. In March 2006, after not bowling for months and without practice, Rusty reached one of his many goals by bowling a 300 game in a City Tournament. An entrepreneur by nature, he started his own game room business at the age of 18. An intelligent businessman, Rusty was co-owner and operator of SB Vending and Video for 20 years. In 2008 he fulfilled a dream when he and his wife Amanda opened the Roundin' Third Sports Bar in his home town of Goleta. His business sense and gregarious nature have made this a very successful and popular gathering place, which allowed him to more recently open the Home Plate Grill which is managed an operated by his brother Ken Johnston. A fabulous cook, Rusty could always be counted on to barbecue at a moment's notice. Tri-Tip was his specialty and everything he touched in a culinary sense was wonderfully delectable. He loved his "kids" Abby and Ben and enjoyed long walks, camping and beach time with them. Rusty's good nature, warmth and humor was infectious. He made everyone around him feel special. Rusty always welcomed everyone with open arms, had a generous and loving nature and many, many friends whose lives he touched. He will be missed by so many who loved him dearly. |
