About Me | After high school, I attended Eldorado Junior College for one year, then joined the Navy in January 1962 to become a Hospital Corpsman. I attended basic schools in San Diego, Ca. (graduated as Honorman), then transferred to the Navy Hospital at the Marine Corps Schools at Quantico, Virginia. I attended the Navy Medical School at Bethesda, Md. and graduated as a Clinical Laboratory and Blood Bank tech and was transferred to the Naval hospital at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina. I served in Rota, Spain, on a nuclear submarine tender in 1966. Upon discharge from the Navy, I moved to Seattle, WA, obtained a 2nd class FCC license in communication electronics, worked at the Boeing Space Center in Kent, WA, and later worked as a medical lab tech while attending the U of W. Graduated from u-dub in Spring of 1972 with a BS in geology, worked as a geologist in Adak, Alaska, and Seattle, and eventually moved to Spokane, Wa, in 1975 to work as a mining and minerals field geologist for the U.S. Bureau of Mines. I worked in the 6 western states (Wa, Or, Id, Mt, Ca, Nv) primarily in Wilderness Areas evaluating the mineral potential of Federal lands that were being considered for "Wilderness" designation. In 1987 I moved to Washington, D.C. to take a position as the Alaska Programs Manager for the BuMines, and in 1991 moved to Anchorage to serve as the Deputy Chief of the Alaska Field Operations Center, eventually serving as the Chief after the sitting Chief retired. I retired from the BuMines in December 1994, worked at the Anchorage Blood Bank for 16 months, then moved to Blaine, Washington, in Spring of 1997 where my wife and I lived on our 34' sailboat for almost 2 years. During the time we lived on the boat I designed our retirement house which we had built in summer of 1998 in a nice golf course resort community called Semiahmoo. After living 20 years in Blaine, WA, my wife Lorrie and I moved to Sparks, Nevada, in October of 2017, and we love it here. I had a hemorrhagic stroke Feb. 10th and was completely paralyzed on my right side, but after six months I have rehabilitated fairly well and can now walk using only a cane. Life is good and we look forward to each day as a blessing from God. I have been active in my local community serving as the Vice President and President of the Men's Breakfast Club, President of our local homeowner's association, and President of the local Corvette club. I've toured all over the central and western U.S. with my Corvette(s) and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and have written travelogues of several of the longest tours. I logged about 60,000 miles in 6 years with my first H-D Deuce, and recently traded it for a new 2009 Road King Classic. In 2008 my wife and I drove our Corvette 175 mph through the Nevada desert on our way to visit Arizona. I've now been retired for almost 15 years. At this time my health is reasonably good, I am deeply in love with my wife of almost 25 years, and unless the government CHANGES it, my finances adequately support my modest lifestyle. "Living well is the best revenge" and I look forward...(read more) |
