He retired as a firefighter for the city of San Jose as a fire engineer. He was chairman of San Jose' Deferred Compensation Board. He also served as president of the Association of Retired Police Officers and Firefighters for San Jose. He was vice-president at the time of his death. He died unexpectantly.
