About 1) In their early teens, a neighbor told their mother the twins, Bonnie & Bettie, were jumping on the swinging bridge over Joachim Creek in DeSoto, MO. They were promptly spanked when they returned home.

2) When they were 15 years old, Bettie and her twin sister Bonnie were in the Degree of Honor Lodge in De Soto, MO. They were the ushers for the organization and wore pink taffeta gowns which their mother made for them.

3) Their mother, Bertie, worked at the International Shoe Company in De Soto and their father, Harvey, was a boiler maker working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

4) Harvey was a fox hunter and raised hunting dogs. The girls were not to play with the dogs, as they were working dogs, but the pups were way too irresistible and they stole away to the shed to pet them every chance they got.

5) Caroline Butler was Bettie and Bonnie’s grandmother. She was one of the founding members of the First Church of God in De Soto, MO. She and others brought the word of God to railroad camps.

6) Brother Fansler was the minister at the First Church of God when Bettie and Bonnie’s parents and grandparents were parishioners.

7) When the twins made cakes in Home Economics at De Soto High School, they used salt instead of sugar. The mix up was Bonnie’s fault and Bettie was vexed with her and worried they would get a bad grade.
