Thomas “Tom” Newell Brennan, 65, of Benicia, California, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on October 22, 2016, after an 18 month battle with lung cancer. Born in Trenton, NJ to Herbert and Jo Ann Brennan, he grew up in El Sobrante, CA. He graduated from De Anza High School in 1969 and immediately entered the workforce. In 1978 he met his wife, Vangie, in Oakland, CA and started a family in Rodeo, CA for 12 years, followed by the next 25 years in Benicia, CA.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Vangie; his sons Tony (Angela) and Ryan (Colleen); sisters, Jeannie (Greg) Reginato and Patty (Kevin) Allen-Renfro; brother, Bobby Brennan, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. Tom was a loving husband, father and friend to all.

Tom Spent 35 years in the banking industry including 7 years at Fireside Thrift as a Branch Manager and 28 years at the Mechanics Bank with his last 7 years as Senior Vice President for the installment loan department. He loved spending time with his family and friends as well as travelling, playing golf, watching sports, his Corvettes, attending car shows, and eating Italian food. He was well known for being an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and Golden State Warriors. Tom was very proud of his sons and heavily involved in their lives, including youth education, sports, performing arts, college, and their careers.

The family would like to say thank you to the many family and friends that kept Tom’s spirits as high as possible during a difficult time with many visits and kind words on Facebook. Also a special thank you to Kaiser Hospice in Vallejo for their loving care and support.

I worked for Tom at Mechanics Bank for a few months while his Admin. Asst. was on maternity leave. He was one busy man and could disappear faster than you could think!
