Major Naval Science, English Years Attended ( 1960 - 64)United States Naval Academy Annapolis, Maryland Skills, honors and Professional highlights Successful appeal in Coriell v. Superior Court, 39 Cal App. 3d 487, 114 Cal Rptr. 310 which established the right in California to seek discovery prior to class certification. Successful appeal in Kelly V. General Telephone, 136 Cal App. 3d 278, 186 Cal Rptr. 184 which established the right of an employee to plead a case for slander and negligent infliction of emotional distress against an employer for a false statement contained in a personnel file without first conducting a reasonable investigation if the communication was motivated by malice. Four Federal trials including 2 for a four week period and one five week trial involving race, national origin, age and sex discrimination. Four State trials including age and national origin discrimination, harassment and slander. Negotiated hundreds of sexual harassment , wrongful termination, discrimination or consumer or civil rights cases or reached a resolution at mediation. Attended Mediation training in 1997 provided by Loyola Law School (36 hours).Successfully represented six picketers from the United Farmworkers of America (AFL- CIO) in a criminal trial in Huntington Park, California. Jury verdict of $278,000.00 after a two week trial in Los Angeles Superior Court- Kelly v. General Telephone for a 13 month employee slandered by his supervisor in an internal document contained in his personnel file. Published Law Review Article, "Conspiratorial Violence at Picket Lines: Actionable Under Section 1985(3) and Section 1981." Selected for a Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellowship, August 1972-August 1973. Stood N. 2 in nationwide competition for a presidential appointment to Annapolis in 1960.Hobbies: Baseball coach for 16 years for Northridge Little League, Babe Ruth League and Mickey Mantle League, physical fitness, weight training, hiking, softball, golf, soccer coach, choir, guitar, photography, travel, reading and book clubs.
