Enlisted in the Navy in August 1975 completing Boot Camp at Great Lakes Illinois, followed by Mess Management "A" School in San Diego, California and Basic Enlisted Submarine School at Groton, Connecticut before being assigned to USS Blueback (SS 581) at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Attended the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island and Graduated in 1977
Attended the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland graduating with the class of 1981 with a BS in Mathematics.
Recruited in Raleigh, North Carolina for NROTC for 1 year before attending Surface Warfare Officer School and being assigned to the USS Nimitz (CVN 68). Had jobs as Air Transfer Officer on the flight deck during my first deployment, Mess Services Officer during an 18 month Complex Overhaul in Newport News, Virginia, and Flight Deck Weapons Officer (G-1) for my second deployment.
Next assigned to Commander Naval Base Norfolk security planning staff for 8 months followed by 18 months in the logistics and comptrollers office at Commander Naval Education and Training Atlantic.
Upon completion of Steam Enginerring Officer Training Course and Damage Control Officer School was assigned to USS Sylvania (AFS-2) for 18 months as the Damage Control Officer and R-Division Officer. Completed a Mediterranean Deployment and qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer. Followed by a 1 year shipyard period, workups, and another deployment.
Next tour was onboard the USS Milwaukee (AOR-2) as the Navigator and Admin Officer. Completed a 16 month Complex Overhaul in Portsmouth Naval Repair Facility and a Mediterranean Deployment.
Final active duty assignment was as an instructor and Course Curriculum Model Manager for the Radiation Safety for Nuclear Weapons Handlers Course at Nuclear Weapons Training Group Atlantic (NWTGlant)
Separated from Service due to medical issues as a Lieutenant Commander and completed 2 years in the Naval Reserve attached to a detachment for Fleet Training Group Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as the Damage Control Inspecting Officer stationed out of Fort Rodman, New Bedford, Massachusetts before being retired medically.
During my time in the Navy:
-while touring the pyramids in Egypt saw it snow
-visited the Valley of the Fallen in Spain
-Watched The Grand Prix of Monaco from a cafe at the tunnel exit
-Saw The filming of Navy Seals (Charlie Sheen) in Norfolk, Virginia and later that year was in Cartagena Spain when they were filming the Lebanon sequences for the movie
-Attended a reception for Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie onboard the USS Nimitz while in Monaco for a port visit
-Attended a reception at the Country Club of Torremolinos, Spain that was thrown by Sean Connery for the officers of the USS Sylvania
-Was on one of the ships that hosted the first 3 Russian warships to visit the USA during the 1980's
-Attended Christmas Midnight Mass at the Cathedral of Majorca while King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia of Spain were in attendance
-Viewed all of the Semana Santa processions down the main boulevard in Malaga Spain during the 21 days I spent there and watched the ritual of freeing a prisioner by the Mayor of Malaga for Good Friday.
