Janie died in 2005 of lung cancer, which was quite a shock since she never smoked nor lived with anyone who did. She always took very good care of her health too.
Janie was loved by many in Naples, Fl where she had lived and taught school since the early 70's. A bench in her name was placed on the grounds of the church her family attended in Naples.
