Air Force, 20+ Years

I was an operating room nurse in the Air Force for 20 years. One of my most memorial assignments was being on the NASA team. I was a team member for the last two Sky Lab Launches and the American/Russian Soyouz hook -up in Space from 1974-1976. The space Shuttle did not require an O.,R. team on site for launch. I was also at Weisbaden, Germany when the TWA Hostages and Father Jenko were release and came through our hospital. (1983-1986. Thinking Back I was also at Westover , MA when the Viet Nam POW's came back.
When I was Stationed at Moody AFB, GA I met and married my husband George. We went From Moody to Wright-Paterson in OH. where we lived through the "Blizzard of '78. Next came Fairchild AFB, Spokane WA. where Nancy and daughter,Erika survived the eruption of Mt St Helens. Yes we had just moved into our new house and had 3 inches of ash all over us. My husband, George, was on assignment at Alburque, NM at the time. I still have a box of ash that I have been carting around the Air Force:)
I retired in June of 1990 just before the first Gulf war started. We deceided to stay put in Vacaville, CA after my Husband retired in January of 1991. I had the privedelge of being a "stay-at-home" mom for my two teenagers, much to their shagrins!.
The Military was a good career choice for me. the retirement check is nice and so is the Medical Care. Nancy
