| About Me | After graduating, I moved to Columbia, MO where I attended Stephens College, graduating in 2003 with a BFA in both Dance and Theatre Arts with an emphasis on lighting design for dance and my music minor. After graduating, I spent the next few years teaching dance in central Missouri, Chicago, and Ohio as well as free-lancing as a lighting designer, technical director, and stage manager for dance studios and companies. While living in Chicago, I continued my performing career with a modern dance company--Korzatkowski Contemporary Dance. I also spent 2 years as the National Sales Manager for Revolution Dancewear--co-designing dance shoes and costumes, working with factories worldwide, managing the customer service team, co-running and coordinating catalog photo shoots, and traveling nation-wide to showcase our products and develop relationships with our clients. When I retired from teaching and performing, I moved to New York City after being offered a scholarship to attend one of the leading dance therapy programs in the country. I earned my MS in Dance/Movement Therapy from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and began practicing in inpatient psychiatry while working for the NYC public hospital system in Harlem. I have been active in the dance/movement therapy community, serving as public relations chair and president of the New York chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association until I decided to relocate back to Kansas City, MO to become the first dance/movement therapist in the area. I worked as a therapist in inpatient psychiatry for 7 years--working in acute inpatient care with children, adolescents, and adults diagnosed with psychosis disorders, mood disorders, trauma disorders, and substance abuse disorders. During that time, I facilitated psychotherapy groups using movement, music, art, verbal processing and other forms of creative expression. While my primary interest is in group therapy, I have worked with clients in individual treatment as well.
