Favorite School Memory	Dave Ford was the Principal at the time and his reputation was as a no-nonsense kind of guy. During assembly, he asked for volunteers for a banana eating contest. One of the volunteers was a guy named Monte Thurman, a senior, who as I remember, was a nice guy, but also quite the cut-up, always getting into just enough trouble to piss off Mr. Ford. After the other two volunteers and Monte were blindfolded and told that the winner would get a day off from school, Mr. Ford proceeded to take the blindfolds off the other two and send them back to their seats. A couple hundred of us, more or less, sat and watched Monte shove those bananas in his mouth, all by himself. It was a lesson for Monte, who was pretty sheepish when he found out what had happened, but I am pretty sure Mr. Ford gave him his day off anyway. It was on...(read more)
