| About Me | She went out on a limb ...and learned she could fly! It is a new year with a need of a new change! Matt and I are beginning a new journey on our personal road we call life. The path has been long, full of pot holes but worth every bit of it! We have both graduated from TCU and have walked across the stage into the ADULT world where there is no absence policy or grading curve. The ever agonizing question of “what’s next” has arrived at our front door and has greeted us with a cold wind---the stepping stone has begun to develop slowly. I have hit the pavement of what most call “corporate” America….or at least my “corporate” America…I am what you call an Administrator (in training) of a Skilled Nursing Facility/Facilities, a.k.a. nursing home administrator who is full of responsibilities and regulations! Although, the stigma of the word/idea “nursing home” still lingers in people’s minds…it’s quite a different ball game and is nothing like it used to be. In a short time I have met some interesting folks--- those that are elderly, wise and sophisticated, those who are way too young to be living in such a place, and even those who have reverted back to child-like ways due to illness and disease….those that will never leave my mind and can’t be forgotten…each engulfing my heart and instilling a forever place there. It is quite something to watch the aging process take its course on a daily basis. Each day as I make morning rounds the thoughts of what “life” is about begins to be put into perspective…this place of work begins to run a list of priorities and life lessons: one quickly learns that God is alive and real, one learns to forgive past hurts, one learns the true meaning of compassion, one learns that the so called “elderly” do know what they are talking about and have most likely “been there and done that”, one learns that death and dying is real and often happens unexpectedly, one learns that your family is all you got and to love them for exactly who they are. It is true that those on their death bed rarely talk about “feel good” memories…they often talk about such regrets and unresolved hurts. I refuse to be in such a place when that time comes--- I want to leave this world knowing that I have loved and have been loved …that I lived each day to its fullest. My goal for 2009 is to stop complaining and start living! Never was nursing home administration a passion of mine….yet it is a passion that continues to grow and truly stems from each experience that I have with every face I meet, each life story I hear, and each unprepared goodbye I often times give without even realizing so. I am blessed! Although, I have no way of knowing where this next path will lead…I know that God’s hand is leading the way and have no doubt that 2009 will be full of surprises. Although, the ever-so lingering and agonizing question of “what’s next” still dangles in Matt’s face….he is completely ambitious…passionate…and all mine :). He is...(read more) |
