Gregory "Greg" Paul Wilkens, 59, of Crookston, Minnesota, died Wednesday morning, September 23, 2009, in the MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Greg was born on April 1, 1950, in Crookston, the son of Donald and Betty (Ruhl) Wilkens. He was raised in Crookston and graduated from Central High School in 1968. After graduation from high school, Greg entered the United States Air Force, where he served honorably in Alaska and Minnesota. After four years of service, he returned to Crookston in 1972. On October 23, 1976, Greg was united in marriage to Linda Royal in Crookston where the couple lived all of their married lives. Greg was employed at Dahlgren and Company from 1976 until the present. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and belonged to the American Legion Post #20. He was an avid sports fan and loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren - Dylan, Hayden and Chloe. As an organ/tissue donor, the Wilkens family would like to acknowledge that Greg gave the most precious gift that anyone could give, the gift to save the lives of his fellow man.

Loving family members include his wife, Linda; two daughters, April Johnson (Darin) of Crookston, MN and Shana Hall (Adam) of Goldsboro, NC; three grandchildren, Dylan, Hayden and Chloe; a sister, Nancy Wilkens of Nashville, TN; uncle, Bill Taylor of St. Louis, MO; aunts, Alma Melhouse, Wanda Wilkens, Leona Wilkens and Irene Ott, all of Crookston; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Betty and a brother, Bruce.

The funeral service for Greg will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, September 27, 2009, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with the Rev. Jo Gast officiating. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Saturday, September 26, 2009, from 5:30-7:30 pm, with a 7:30 pm prayer service. There will also be a visitation at the church for one hour prior to the funeral.
