| Favorite School Memory | Wow, what a group of men and women, friends and teachers. Here are some of my memories that will never leave my mind about Covington Douglas High School. The day Mr. Willie Patrick and I went bird hunting during drivers Ed class, what a day of watching the bird dogs hunt and the lead flying. The patients of Harvey Theilan teaching me the fundamentals of shooting a basketball, and blasting off rockets, let’s not forget the time he reminded me that I could play basketball, even when I was in a slump, when the High School Coach at the time couldn’t get the point across. Coach Jessie James, pushing me as a person, during my freshman year, knowing that I was dealing with family issues at home during the time. He also pushed me to earn all conference award my senior year. Watching # 22 (Kirk Beeby), run between a block that the guard and I had made, and scoring six points, he was the fastest person that I have ever seen on the field and one of the hardest hitters for his size. The Lance Fortney, score over 30 points, when he should have been in the hospital, or a least at home in bed sick with a 103 fever. Francis Hurd, taking the girls team on her shoulders to win, win, and win. She could really rip the net with that basketball. Memories of Tori Harman sticking it out during our homecoming ceremonies, I almost had to carry her, but she hanged tough. The memory of starting every baseball game, but two games in my high school career, this was awesome. Hitting my first HS homerun as freshman, we never found that ball, I guess connecting on the sweet part of the ball, and a lucky hit is what I said. The Senior Ski Trip, watching all my classmates and friends enjoy each others company. Everyone got along and had a blast with only a few injuries. Ms. Geraldine Shaffer, she was the one who exposed me to Ms. Angie Debo and to our Oklahoma culture and made English, American Lit. and Drama so much fun. Ms. Kanga for helping me learn typing 101, even with a cast on my hand. I am so grateful today, due to the fact, I see so many other people struggle today. Then there is couple of stories of some Principles and Superintendents giving me their own ways of encouragement, Ouch! LOL They all knew what and when too say something for guidance. Teachers and Friends in High School truly make the person. There are more stories, but these stories seem to be in the front of m...(read more) |
