Donald W. Evans Jr. is the most prominently identified Medal of Honor recipient associated with Covina High School. A track star at the school, Evans served as a U.S. Army medic during the Vietnam War and posthumously received the nation’s highest military honor for his actions on January 27, 1967.

I remember an assembly, kids being kids we were noisy, so in comes a an army officer with a family, we are think this is some kind of recruiting assembly, he starts by saying we are here to honor one of your classmates, it becomes pretty silent he reads the the Medal of Honor commendation, he was under heavy fire, saved several of his comrades while wounded and was fatally shot.
