About	Dennis was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Clarence Nelson & Doris (Killion) Nelson and moved to Corvallis in 1954. After graduating from Corvallis High, he enrolled in the Army for four years and then attended Oregon State and the University of Oregon. In 1969 he graduated UofO with a degree in journalism and married Kadim Chishti (Nan Baxendale). Dennis was a very devoted father and their sons Jesse and Cody were an immense source of pride and joy for him. Dennis had a wide variety of jbs in his early life -- everything from carpenter to newspaper publisher, but most of his career was spent working in government. He worked for a number ofagencies in Salem, Corvallis and Portland, culminating in becoming the director of the Licensing Bureau for Portland. He was someone who could talk to anyone and with his wry sense of humor and keen intellect was always good for an entertaining story or in depth philosophical discussion. He loved fishing, gardening and travel, but his biggest love and priority was always his family and friends. He is survived by his former wife, Khadim Chishti; sons Jess and Cody Nelson; sister Nancy nelson; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Larry. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 11 at 4pm at the Augustana Lutheran Church on Northeast 14th Avenue in Portland.
