About | Janice R. Woodman, 71, of Corvallis passed away September 4 in the Dallas Retirement Village after a brave three-year battle with ovarian cancer. Jan was born in Portland on January 22, 1944, the daughter of Ray and Elaine Woodman. She attended Faubion Elementary School and Grant High School in Portland. After her family relocated to Corvallis, Jan attended Corvallis High School, graduating in 1962. In the mid-60's, Jan moved to Alaska, living and working in Clear and Fairbanks. After her marriage to Roy Nuttall, they moved to California, where her beloved daughter, Shannon, was born in 1971. Jan and her family soon returned to Alaska, living happily in Anchorage for over 20 years. Jan spent many creative, productive years volunteering and working at St. Mary's Preschool, and was always active in local cultural, community and school activities. Jan loved RVing, snowmobiling and traveling around Alaska with family and friends. She also enjoyed opportunities for travel to Hawaii, Europe and even Peru. After her divorce, Jan worked as a receptionist at Alaska Urological. In 1998, she moved back to Corvallis and attended Linn-Benton Community College where she successfully completed dental assistant training. She was employed at Willamette Dental in Corvallis until her retirement in 2010. Jan was a long time member of the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church and active in PEO. Jan is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Rob) Bese, and grandsons Luke, Nick, Parker and Robbie of Salem; sisters Nancy (Ed) Bump of Green Valley, Arizona, and Trish Power of Corvallis; and brothers Bill (Karen) Woodman of Bend and John (Kathy) Woodman of Beaverton. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; stepson Rick Nuttal of Vancouver, Washington; her dachshund, Toby; and innumerable loving friends. Jan will be remembered for her fun, friendly, warm personality and generous hospitality, for her creative and unique personal style; her laughter and bold sense of humor; and for her compassion and loyalty to fiends and family. An informal celebration of her life took place at Willamette Park in the new Rotary shelter. |
